In 1997, the Lancaster Land Trust was established by a group of citizens dedicated to safeguarding the town's picturesque views and open spaces for outdoor activities and wildlife habitats, while also preserving its rural identity.
The Trust collaborates with the town and landowners to safeguard specific plots of land identified in the current Lancaster Open Space and Recreation Plan through purchases and conservation restrictions.
Land parcels owned by the Lancaster Land Trust and private properties with conservation restrictions granted by the Trust are accessible to the public for passive recreational activities.
